Something happened. Between the summer of The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored and the night before Christmas Eve 2023, the music of Hayden Pedigo transformed. Back-to-back months of touring lead to incredible outcomes: First, his chops became more finely honed than ever before, lending a precision and versatility to the songs that would surprise even the most-seasoned Pedigo listener. Second, Hayden lived in these songs, translating them through improvisation and dynamic exploration into emotional juggernauts – instrumental music that sings to the audience.

Landing in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas for the holidays to perform at The Amarillo Globe-News Center – home of the Amarillo Symphony – a gorgeous and beguiling set was recorded in front of a crowd of nearly five hundred people. Put to tape by Nathan and Joe Luscombe, mixed by Davis Hart, and mastered by Stephan Mathieu, Mexican Summer proudly presents Hayden Pedigo’s Live in Amarillo, Texas, an album that could one day be mentioned in the same breath as John Fahey's The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick and Townes Van Zandt's Live at the Old Quarter.

In the depths of Marem Ladson’s music lies a profound exploration of her cross-cultural identity, intertwining her unique approach to lyrical and introspective songwriting with influences from folk, pop, and Spanish traditional music. Born in Spain and based in New York, “her sumptuous hooks and sweetly lilting vocals seem to form a language unto themselves” (Stephen Thompson, NPR Music).

Hailing from Galicia in northern Spain, Marem sought solace from an early age in the written word, penning short stories and poems that served as windows into her internal world. It was not long before she discovered the transformative power of music, teaching herself to play the guitar and transforming her literary creations into heartfelt songs. It was through music that she sought to understand herself, seeking connection and a true sense of belonging. In Galicia, she found a close-knit community of musicians at Café Torgal, a small indie music venue that birthed her artistic awakening. It was there that she immersed herself in the music of artists like Damien Jurado, Matthew E. White, and Lee Renaldo, while also stepping onto the stage for her first live performances. In 2018, she released her self-titled debut album, which led to extensive touring in Spain and Portugal, sharing stages with renowned acts like Cat Power and Laura Gibson.

A goth/post punk/darkwave/early industrial event with silent horror visuals. 

NOIR, featuring vocalist Athan Maroulis (Spahn Ranch, Black Tape for a Blue Girl) Kai Irina Hahn and Jamie Parganos on live keyboards, NØIR debuted with 'Darkly Near,' (2013). 'The Burning Bridge' (2016) added guitarist/producer Erik Gustafson. 'Fallen,' (2023) was NØIR's eighth release of sophisticated electronic dark pop with a sensual cover of the Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way."  

ANCIENT MY ENEMY from Woodstock NY is a dark project spawned from local FLOORSHOW event principles Ti-Ti (vocals), Tommy Grenas (guitars. bass, keys) and Scott Harris (drums, programming, synth bass/keys). The band draws on influences such as Killing Joke, Bow Wow Wow, Alien Sex Fiend, Siouxsie and The Banshees and Christian Death. With a sound of their own driven by pounding electronic tribal beats, ethereal guitars, driving fuzz bass, new wave/blitz club
period sounding synths and the magic Ti-Ti's vocals stylings.

FRENCHY AND THE PUNK
Through their unmistakable blend of influences ranging from post-punk and dark folk to new wave and goth, Hudson Valley based Frenchy and the Punk have forged their own distinct path since 2005, touring across the US and Europe with their artful two-person powerhouse of sound. Drawing inspiration from post-punk legends like The Cure, the upbeat energy and percussive textures of Adam and the Ants, the bewitching mystique of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the quirky charm of The B-52's, they have crafted a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern and authentic delivered in an unorthodox way.

The Ladybug Transistor was formed in 1995 as the home recording project of singer and trumpeter Gary Olson, and by 1999 the group had swelled to include siblings Jeff Baron (guitar) and Jennifer Baron (bass), Sasha Bell (keyboards and flute), San Fadyl (drums), and Julia Rydholm (violin).

This tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of their third full length LP The Albemarle Sound originally released in 1999 on Merge. Perhaps the last great pop album of the 20th century,the Albemarle Sound is like few records from the turn of the millennium, its attention turned to the intricate arrangements of late 1960s pop and the strange and familiar environs of home.

New Jersey's Lightheaded are clearly students of pop in all of its variety, drawing as much from 60s Brill Building song writers as they do from later 60s folk/pop developments and 80s DIY pop. The striking thing is how seamlessly they're able to meld these influences, and the distinctive voice that they've crafted this early in their career.

The Ar-Kaics: The Ar-Kaics are back with See the World on Fire, their first new album in six years. It’s also the first release from this newly-minted partnership between Feel It Records and the bands’ own imprint, Dig! Records; with Bachelor Records delivering a European edition. Expect eight new tunes of dark, moody, rollicking garage psych not altogether dissimilar from their previous output (across two LPs and a mess of singles). What you get here is the next chapter. All written and recorded in singer-guitarist Johnny’s bedroom / garage (pictured on the album cover), it’s a concept album based on the concept of making an album—on their own, from the brink.

Benny Trokan: You may recognize this fine fellow as the bass player for such acts as Spoon, Lee Fields' Expressions, Reigning Sound and The Jay Vons. Or perhaps you’ve heard the man himself wailing away on several well-received 45s released on Wick Records and compiled on the 2022 digital EP "Hey Lovers." With Do You Still Think of Me, his debut album for Wick Records, Trokan takes the listener through the full spectrum of 60s influenced music: the moody teen-beat bop of “Save a Place,” the garage dwelling angst of “Nowhere to Be Found,” to the sweet soul sound of the title track. But throughout the record, it’s the unique sound of Benny's raspy, vulnerable lead vocal that carries us across this truly stunning collection of modern pop. Do You Still Think of Me is a breath of fresh air from a well-seasoned veteran–unquestionably worth the wait.

MUSIC FOR FURNITURE is a 5-piece ambient supergroup from Catskill, NY. They are resident musical artists at Cafe Joust, where they play a 90-minute set every Monday morning. An experiment in attentive listening, Rodney Alan Greenblat, David Garland, Jimmy Garver, Kenji Garland, and Dan Kirkhus pool their musical perspectives to create spontaneous soundscapes using synthesizers, electronics, and woodwinds. We're excited to have Music for Furniture taking a field trip to Tubby's for an evening performance.

LARRY LEGEND is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, NY who weaves vintage sounds, lo-fi production techniques, and elements of folk music into a quirky retro-future landscape. Larry will play a solo ambient set with Farfisa organ, Wurlitzer electric piano, and effects.

FRANCESCA HOFFMAN is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, owner of Unicorn Bar, and founder of the Hudson Valley Brassroots Festival. Based in Kingston, NY, she is a classically trained flutist and self-taught guitarist, ukulele player, and percussionist. Francesca will present a brand new, never performed before ambient set on flute and loop pedal that she likes to call "Flute Loops."

Another installment of Dose The Rondout's Dead Night! This time it's the winter and countrified version. Austin McCutchen’s Almost Shred presents Jerry’s Briefcase. A lineup of east coast lightning boasting the talents of John Lee Shannon (circles around the sun), vocalist and harpist (on keys) Mikaela Davis, New York bassist Scott Colberg (Margaret Glaspy, Calexico) and drummer Tony Leone (CRB, Little Feat to name a couple).

Dose the Rondout and Dom will be playing tapes, and Hoss Doctor will be spinning country dead 45s. It's gonna be a long long crazy crazy silky silky crazy crazy night. THE LAST SHOW OF THE YEAR AT TUBBY'S

Rose Main Reading Room, the fourth full length by Peel Dream Magazine, is a lush, inviting headphones record; the kind of album made to accompany city bus rides and rainy-day solo trips to accidental destinations. The band, whose name nods to the BBC Radio 1 legend John Peel — arbiter of all things underground, quality, and (it must be said) “cool” — has since its inception been a genre-hopping experiment, jumping from motorik krautrock to shoegaze and space age pop, and their newest work is a perfect starting point for the uninitiated, beckoning toward a newfound romance and nostalgia with their catchiest collection of songs to date.
